Terms of Use

Effective date: April 1, 2026

Thanks for using WoodMate. These Terms explain the rules for using our app and AI-powered woodworking features. Please read them carefully. A few of the sections (especially the ones about safety and AI accuracy) matter a lot.

1. Acceptance of Terms

These Terms of Use (“Terms”) are a binding agreement between you and WoodMate (“WoodMate”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) governing your access to and use of the WoodMate mobile application for iOS and Android, any related websites, and any features or services we provide (collectively, the “Service”). By downloading, installing, or using the Service, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. Description of the Service

WoodMate is an AI-powered companion app for woodworkers, hobbyists, and craftspeople. The Service provides tools that include, but are not limited to:

  • Wood species identification from photos.
  • AI-generated build guides derived from an image of a piece of furniture, including suggested dimensions, cut lists, hardware lists, tools, and step-by-step instructions.
  • AI-generated repair guidance for damaged wooden items.
  • A curated library of woodworking plans and projects.
  • Photo-based value estimates for wooden pieces.
  • Onboarding and personalization based on your skill level, owned tools, and preferences.

Features may change, be added, or be removed at our sole discretion and without notice.

3. Eligibility & Accounts

To use WoodMate you must meet all of the following requirements:

  • You are at least 13 years old, or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction to form a binding contract.
  • If you are under the age of majority, you use the Service only with the permission and supervision of a parent or legal guardian.
  • You provide accurate, current, and complete information if and when you create an account or a profile.
  • You are responsible for safeguarding any credentials associated with your device or account, and for all activity that occurs through them.

4. Acceptable Use

When using the Service, you agree that you will not:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful, fraudulent, or harmful purpose.
  • Upload photos or content that you do not own or do not have the necessary rights to share.
  • Upload content that is obscene, defamatory, infringing, or that depicts minors in an inappropriate manner.
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, scrape, or otherwise extract the source code or training data behind our AI features.
  • Use the Service to build a competing product, dataset, or AI model.
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Service, its servers, or any networks connected to it, including by submitting malicious code or automated traffic.
  • Circumvent any access controls, rate limits, or usage limits associated with the Service or a subscription.

5. Subscriptions, Billing & Auto-Renewal

WoodMate is free to download and includes core features at no cost. Certain premium features, such as unlimited custom build guide generation, are available only with an optional paid subscription (“WoodMate Pro”). The following terms apply to subscriptions:

  • Subscriptions are billed through the Apple App Store or Google Play store account you used to subscribe, according to the pricing shown in the app at the time of purchase.
  • Unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period, your subscription will automatically renew for the same period at the then-current price.
  • You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time through the subscription settings in your Apple ID or Google Play account.
  • Free trials, if offered, convert to paid subscriptions automatically unless cancelled before the trial ends.
  • Except where required by law, payments are non-refundable. Refunds, when available, are handled by the applicable app store under its policies.

6. AI-Generated Content & Accuracy

WoodMate relies on artificial intelligence to identify wood species, generate build guides, suggest repairs, and estimate values. AI outputs are inherently probabilistic and imperfect. You acknowledge and agree that:

  • AI-generated identifications, plans, repair steps, material lists, cut lists, and value estimates are provided for informational purposes only and may be inaccurate, incomplete, or out of date.
  • WoodMate does not guarantee the correctness of any wood species identification, dimension, hardware choice, price estimate, or technique.
  • You are solely responsible for verifying any AI output against reputable sources, your own experience, a qualified professional, and local regulations before acting on it.
  • WoodMate is not a substitute for professional advice from a carpenter, engineer, appraiser, or other qualified expert.

7. Safety Disclaimer: Woodworking Involves Risk

Woodworking involves the use of sharp hand tools, power tools, wood dust, finishes, adhesives, and other materials that can cause serious injury, property damage, fire, or death if used improperly. By using WoodMate you understand and accept that:

  • You use all tools, techniques, plans, and repair instructions entirely at your own risk.
  • You are solely responsible for your own safety and the safety of anyone around you, including for wearing appropriate protective equipment and following the safety guidance of your tool and material manufacturers.
  • WoodMate is not responsible for, and disclaims all liability for, any injury, property damage, or loss resulting from the use or misuse of information or guides generated by the Service.
  • If you are unsure whether a plan, tool, material, or technique is safe or appropriate for your skill level, consult a qualified professional before proceeding.

8. Your Content

WoodMate lets you upload photos and other content (“User Content”) so the Service can perform analysis such as species identification, guide generation, repair planning, or value estimation. With respect to User Content:

  • You retain all ownership rights in your User Content.
  • You grant WoodMate a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, process, transmit, and display your User Content solely for the purpose of operating, providing, and improving the Service.
  • You represent and warrant that you have all rights necessary to grant that license, and that your User Content does not violate any law or any third party's rights.
  • We may remove User Content that we believe, in our reasonable judgement, violates these Terms or applicable law.
  • Where you opt in or where permitted by applicable law, we may use anonymized, aggregated, or de-identified versions of User Content to train and improve our AI models. See our Privacy Policy for details.

9. Intellectual Property

All rights, title, and interest in and to the Service, including the WoodMate name and logos, the app, our curated plans, our AI models, our website, and all related content, are and will remain the exclusive property of WoodMate and its licensors. Subject to your compliance with these Terms, we grant you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable licence to use the Service for your personal, non-commercial purposes. No other rights are granted, whether by implication, estoppel, or otherwise.

10. Third-Party Services & App Stores

The Service is distributed through the Apple App Store and Google Play, and may integrate with or link to third-party services, tools, or content. You agree that:

  • Your use of the Apple App Store and Google Play is subject to the terms and conditions of those platforms in addition to these Terms.
  • In the event of a conflict between these Terms and the applicable app store's terms with respect to the licensing of the app, the app store's terms will control as required by that app store.
  • We are not responsible for the content, accuracy, or practices of third-party services linked from the Service.

11. Suspension & Termination

We may suspend, limit, or terminate your access to all or part of the Service at any time, with or without notice, if we believe you have violated these Terms, created risk or possible legal exposure for us or other users, or if we discontinue the Service. You may stop using the Service and uninstall the app at any time. Sections that by their nature should survive termination will survive, including but not limited to provisions regarding ownership, disclaimers, limitations of liability, and indemnification.

12. Disclaimer of Warranties

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE SERVICE AND ALL CONTENT AND AI OUTPUTS ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, ACCURACY, OR UNINTERRUPTED OPERATION. WOODMATE DOES NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE ERROR-FREE, THAT AI OUTPUTS WILL BE ACCURATE, OR THAT ANY DEFECTS WILL BE CORRECTED.

13. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WOODMATE AND ITS AFFILIATES, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AND LICENSORS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF, OR INABILITY TO USE, THE SERVICE. IN ALL CASES, OUR AGGREGATE LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNTS YOU PAID TO WOODMATE IN THE TWELVE MONTHS PRECEDING THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM, OR (B) FIFTY U.S. DOLLARS (US $50).

14. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless WoodMate, its affiliates, and its personnel from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or in any way connected with:

  • Your use of or access to the Service.
  • Your violation of these Terms or any applicable law.
  • Your User Content or the rights of any third party related to it.
  • Any injury, damage, or loss arising from your woodworking activities, whether or not informed by guidance from the Service.

15. Governing Law & Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which WoodMate operates, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles. You agree that any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service will be resolved exclusively in the competent courts of that jurisdiction, except where mandatory consumer protection laws in your place of residence grant you additional rights that cannot be waived. Nothing in these Terms affects any statutory rights you have as a consumer that cannot be waived by contract.

16. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time to reflect changes in the Service, our business, or the law. When we do, we will update the “Effective date” at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you through the app. Your continued use of the Service after the updated Terms take effect constitutes your acceptance of those changes. If you do not agree to the updated Terms, you must stop using the Service.
